Symtoms of diabetes irrespective of whether it is Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes are all related to an excess of sugar levels in the blood and if treatment for diabetes is not provided in time it can lead to further complications.

The following typical symtoms of diabetes will be experienced by a person who has diabetes.

-Excessive thirst which is unusual and not related to exercising or other environmental factors.
-Unusually excessive hunger
-Frequent urination
-Tiredness and fatigue even though you may not have had a hectic day
-Sudden weight loss

If the above mentioned symtoms of diabetes are neglected or overlooked it can lead to complications of diabetes, an advanced stage of diabetes and cause physical and neurological problems as follows:
-Numbness and or tingling of the feet and hands
-Wounds that do not heal for long periods
-Heart disease (cardiovascular disease)
-Macular degeneration that causes blurry vision – can lead to blindness
-Persistent yeast infection particularly in women that are hard to cure
-Rough and dry skin that is caused by peripheral neuropathy that harms the circulatory system

Diabetes is not only a burden but if ignored and left untreated complications of diabetes can be life threatening as well.

The general perception about treatment for diabetes however is that it is incurable and that it can be treated only by way of taking expensive drugs and painful insulin injections regularly. But being a patient myself I realized that this is absolutely false, in fact a change in lifestyle is all it takes to bring your diabetes under control and in most cases out of diabetes. Dependency on insulin injections and expensive drugs is bad for you as in the long term you it will not only make you dependent on them but also dig a big hole in your pocket, still worse your life style will compulsorily have to change for the worse to suit your “diabetic” condition.

But if you do as I did and follow Joe’s advice it will not only improve your lifestyle for the good but in a short period make you diabetes free as I am now. For further information on Joe Barton’s life changing diabetes program click here.

Diabetes Plate Method offers many invaluable benefits to the diabetic people. I have given few of them below. They are:

1. The blood sugar level of a diabetic individual can be managed under the required level everyday since carbohydrates are distributed evenly.
2. The consumption rate of starches, fat or cholesterol can easily be maintained.
3. A diabetic individual will be able to get plenty of fibre, antioxidants, photo-chemicals and proteins which form a healthy diet.
4. Another notable benefit is the weight loss without extra efforts. As we know, excess body weight minimizes insulin sensitivity.

Diabetes Plate Method is one of the best methods to minimize the intake of carbohydrate and low fat. This method is more useful for the type – 2 diabetic patients. They can see the quantity of particular food type they need to eat. Hence, they will receive a balanced diabetes diet. This diabetes plate method can also be followed by the people who are obese and want to protect themselves against diabetes and heart-related problems.

Here I have shown below how to prepare a diabetes diet using diabetes plate method. It is as follows;

1. Make two equal parts in your plate i.e., ½. Then in one of those parts, make two more equal parts i.e., ¼.
2. Now, in the large half part of the plate, you can place your favorite non-starchy veggies such as spinach, green beans, lettuce, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, mushrooms, celery etc. However, keep an eye on the quantity of potatoes, corn, yams, peas and winter squash.
3. After that, in ¼ part, take meat or protein contained food like chicken, eggs, beef, lamb, fish, cottage cheese, tofu, turkey etc.
4. Then fill the another ¼ part with potatoes, brown rice, pea’s soup, bread, crackers, cereal, yams, tortillas, lentils, beans etc.
5. Now, take one glass of non-fat, sugar-free yogurt or milk.
6. Finally, you can have fruits like apple, guava, berries or any citrus type.

The diabetic diet chart continues in this part-2. You should carefully read and choose the proper amount of food given in diabetic diet chart.

Milk and its products: Milk or diary products are full of protein and calcium vitamins. But you should choose low fat or non-fat dairy products. They have no saturated fat. You can try yogurt also. Yogurt has natural sugar in it. Yogurt also comes with added sugar or artificial sweeteners. However, it is recommended to go for yogurt with artificial sweeteners since it has lesser calories than yogurt with added sugar.

You can consume milk and its products 2 – 3 times in a day. Make sure that each time you get 1 cup of non-fat or low-fat milk and 1 cup of yogurt.

Meat and its substitutes: Chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, beef, tofu, cheese, cottage cheese, peanut butter come in this section. You can get the required amount of protein, vitamins and minerals from meat food products. You can minimize the amount of fat by picking lean meats, poultry and fish items.

In total, you will need 120 – 180 grams of meat daily. Do not forget to divide meat in small portion between meals. You can have 30 grams of meat or ¼ cup of cottage cheese or 1 egg. You can also try 1 table spoon of peanut butter or ½ cup of tofu.

Fats, Sweets and Alcohol: Sweets should be served as a treat not as a regular food. Sweets are high in fat and sugar. You can find large amount of sugar in candy, fried foods, potato chips, cookies, crackers etc. You should remember that they are nutritious food. Though alcohol is strictly prohibited for diabetic patients, they can consume it with a meal in a very limited amount. You can consume ½ cup of ice-cream, 1 small cup cake and 2 small cookies.
